Designer Spotlight: Cheryl Stauffer of Crimson Design
At Premium Hardware, we’re blessed to work with some of the most talented interior designers and home architects in the Midwest. People would be amazed at how much raw talent there is right here in Columbus, from interior design and home decor to architects and building contractors. It’s a treasure trove of gorgeous work and we want to shine a spotlight on some of the most talented people in the industry.
In this edition of Designer Spotlight, we speak with Cheryl Stauffer of Crimson Design Group. Cheryl founded Crimson Design Group in 2003 with the inspiration to infuse pure joy into the design process. Her talented team designs both commercial and residential interiors and have a breathtaking portfolio of high quality work. Cheryl was kind enough to answer some of our questions with signature grace.
How did you get started with interior design?
I always knew I wanted to be a business owner. That came first. I realized I enjoyed creating unique spaces second. I attended the Interior Design Academy in Columbus and joined a local design firm right after graduating. Eventually, that desire to run my own business won out and 14 years ago I started Crimson Design Group.
What kinds of design projects do you usually work on?
At Crimson Design, we work in both the commercial and high-end residential worlds. We strive to bring the same level of personalized design to each client, whether the project is a home or a multi-family housing building.
How would you describe your approach to design, particularly for a kitchen or bathroom?
We want our designs to reflect the lives and dreams of our clients. We do this through design translation. Design translation lets us take the client’s vision, truly understand who they are, and harness this information to create a space that is unique to that client. However, just as life is ever changing and fluid, so is design. It’s never stagnant. So we like to take our client’s style and run with it. We try to push the boundaries, just a little. We challenge our clients to be daring in their uniqueness and we delight in guiding them through that process.
Who are your design influences?
I draw a lot of inspiration from traveling to other countries and learning about different cultures. As far as individuals who influence me, Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Kelly Wearstler, and Daphne Guinness inspire me.
How important are the details like knobs, drawer pulls, and other accents? And how do you go about selecting the right hardware?
Extremely important. The small details like knobs and drawer pulls tie everything together and bring congruency between functionality and beauty. These accents should have enough presence to draw the eye but not so much as to overpower.
