Designer Spotlight: Kellie Toole Interior Design

At Premium Hardware, we’re blessed to work with some of the most talented interior designers and home architects in the Midwest.  People would be amazed at how much raw talent there is right here in Columbus, from interior design and home decor to architects and building contractors. It’s a treasure trove of gorgeous work and we want to shine a spotlight on some of the most talented people in the industry.

In this edition of Designer Spotlight, we speak with Kellie Toole of Kellie Toole Interior Design.  This wonderfully creative designer has been in the interior design business for over 20 years and works with us frequently here at Premium Hardware.  She started her own firm in 2006 and has been very active with ASID, the American Society of Interior Designers.  We were very fortunate to catch up with this busy superstar for a few comments on her work and her process.

How did you get started with interior design?

I actually applied to The Ohio State University thinking I would major in Aeronautical Engineering.  Needless to say, that didn’t work out.  I flipped to the other side of my brain and decided Interior Design was a great way to be artistic and not be a “starving artist.”  Interior Design allows me to work with both my artistic and analytic mind.  It’s the best of both worlds for me.

What kinds of design projects do you usually work on?

I’ve worked in the home improvement industry, furniture retail industry, and design studio environments in my 22 years.  The last 10 years (approaching 11) I’ve spent building my own firm, Kellie Toole Interior Design, Ltd.  That leap of faith in myself, was the best thing I could have ever done.

How would you describe your approach to design, particularly for a kitchen or bathroom?

My client projects vary greatly in style, which is one of the things I love about this business.  It’s impossible to get bored.  I have a contemporary bathroom under construction as we speak.  Their Quarter Macassar Ebony cabinets required discrete hardware allowing the wood grain to take center stage.  On the other hand, I recently completed a retro mid century modern kitchen who’s cabinet hardware back plates stole the show.  Much like a kitchen backsplash is the tie to a great suit (it can make or break it!!), hardware is the jewelry.  Pending your outfit, simple diamond studs are all you need to look polished.  But then there are the days when nothing but chandelier earrings will do!  Linda will help me find just the right look.

What can you tell us about working with Linda and Premium Hardware?

Linda and Premium Hardware have been an invaluable source for hardware.  Especially when I need something outside of the norm, Premium Hardware is the first place I turn.  Linda has acquired an extensive selection, from sleek and simple contemporary to over-the-top ornate and traditional.

We are so thankful to Kellie for taking the time to speak with us about her beautiful work and her creative process.  We enjoy working with her very much and encourage all of our friends and followers to explore her website and connect with her on social media.
